Reflections..

Watching the results of the elections roll in one by one, with long time people being outed by new comers from political dynasties of the country, made me wonder..will we see change? Education is the reason why we are witnessing a new generation in Malaysian politics. There is no denying this fact.

Since it is education that is taking us to new places, then, it is my hope that we will see some more changes in our education policies. If we do not provide our young, irrespective of ability, social class, gender or race, with the best possible education, then we are likely to fall short of the goal of achieving "developed country" status. We must stop picking and choosing who gets educated. Instead we should make available all necessary resources to make sure every child has a fair and equal chance in life.

Education has been compromised for so long. We need to sit up and re-look the system. I strongly subscribe to the fact that teachers should be chosen from the cream of society. Many teachers today went into teaching not because they love imparting knowledge but because they could not get into any other course due to their poor results. Why have the lowest achievers mould our future generations? Seems something went drastically wrong since independance that we should have overlooked this important fact. Now, its time to stop crying over spilt milk, and seriously think of ways and means of bringing the standards of our educators in primary and secondary schools to an international level. We need to attract young blood, intelligent young blood into the profession. Lets bring back the dignity to the teaching profession.

Thank you Pak Lah for bringing to this point in our history that we should dare voice our thoughts and share them openly. It has been an educational journey. Like so many others, I have never been more proud to be Malaysian than I am today!
